The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that Ajax Paving Industries Inc. of Troy, Mich., has won a 2008 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award on Tuesday, January 20, at a special awards breakfast during the Association’s 54th Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif. The Quality in Construction Awards recognize hot-mix asphalt (HMA) pavements of excellence. “NAPA selects the recipients of its paving awards using a known set of standards that have been shown to give a good result,” commented Mac Badgett, 2008 Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. “This award demonstrates the high quality of work that the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) industry is achieving.” Ajax Paving Industries won the award for the repaving of the high-speed oval at Michigan Proving Ground. Work included the removal of existing pavement and its replacement with new HMA base, level and surfacing courses. The mixes contained a high percentage of recycled asphalt pavement. The company met significant technical production and safety challenges to deliver a high quality track that far exceeded ride quality requirements.
