The Ajax of Florida Story

In 1981, the company launched operations in Florida by building an asphalt plant in the fast-growing community of Port Charlotte. Quickly building a reputation and client list, an additional asphalt plant was built in Ft. Myers just a few years later. Ajax continued to invest in upgrading to state-of-the-art asphalt drum mix plants with recycling capabilities.
Ajax continued to add asphalt manufacturing facilities and paving crews throughout the Gulf Coast, including moving into the Tampa Bay market. During this time, the company implemented a university recruitment initiative for Ajax leadership, which helped the company achieve new levels of success. Recruitment at top universities continues to this day.
Ajax greeted the new millennium with continued growth and expansion. New strategic initiatives, including a 100 percent increase in asphalt production capabilities in Florida and an A+ performance rating by the Florida Department of Transportation, resulted in Ajax being awarded the largest paving contract in the history of the state. The IROX Project was a success by all standards.
The country was still suffering through one of the worst recessions in United States history during the first part of the decade. In response, many road construction companies downsized or went out of business. Ajax Paving made it through those tough times while keeping our core workforce intact and our balance sheet strong.

By 2012, the economy was on the upswing. Ajax purchased another asphalt plant in Pinellas County solidifying our position in the Tampa Bay market. As we look to the future, Ajax is poised for continued success as we practice our core principles of Quality, Safety and Productivity.
For over 66 years, Ajax Paving has taken the high road when it comes to our core principles — safety, quality, and productivity. By investing in our employees, the best equipment and the latest technology, our company is prepared to build the roads, runways and tracks needed to keep America moving. Itʼs why weʼre confident to say The Future is Riding on Ajax.
