What We Did
This 4.71-mile resurfacing project on I-75 consisted of a 2-inch thick overlay of the three travel lanes (north and south), a 2-inch thick overlay of on/off ramps, and a 2-inch thick overlay on the freeway shoulders. Two lanes were composite pavement, and one was concrete pavement. Over 53,000 lineal feet of pavement joint and crack repair was completed along with the installation of 45,918 tons of HMA. The project was completed within a nightly 8-hour time window that was strictly enforced.
Ajax earned incentives for mixture quality, mat density, and joint density. Michigan Department of Transportation ride quality requirements for single course overlays (without milling) resulted in a 25 percent improvement in ride quality. Because work was performed at night, traffic control and safety were of high importance.
